Frank and I met back in 1972 when I joined the Augusta Football Board. He was my mentor until his retirement from the game. We had a lot of good times together and I will miss him terribly. I fondly remember the many trips we took to Leeds as kids. Life was simpler, entertainment was free and kids were allowed to be kids. Going up behind the house playing in the sand, going down to the beach and stepping on clam shells, hopping in the back of the truck for the short ride to Stinchfield Beach. I owe my first taste of McDonalds chicken Mc Nuggets to Uncle Buck, on our way to a college football game he was officiating in Vermont..Norwich vs. New Haven....I got to hang out on the sideline because my uncle was a ref..THAT was cool. I will forever remember Uncle Buck letting us kids just "be kids" and for that I am thankful. Though I didn't get to see Uncle Buck much in the last 25 years the memories remain and getting to look at all of the photo's everyone has shared has brought tears to my eyes, laughter to my soul and a touch of sadness to my heart. Thank you Uncle Buck for being who you were and may we one day meet again and maybe take another trip to a football game........Your nephew.....Rick

Dear Ones, "Losing someone we love is never easy, especially when it happens unexpectedly. We find ourselves searching for a reason for what happened, and struggling to make some sense of it all. God may not give us all the answers we seek, yet if we trust in Him, He will give us peace of mind, and the love, faith, and courage to carry on. Most of all the wonderful things in life come by twos and threes, by dozens, and by hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. But there is only one father in the whole world." I was only 12 when your father married and left home. By the time your folks returned, I had a husband and children. At that time in the late 50's and early 60's, we were just two young families struggling to make ends meet. We looked to each other for companionship, and developed a close bond during those years. Who could ever forget the plays that you kids used to put on for us out on our porch; the birthday parties with all the cousins; the Maybaskets; tenting out in the yard; installing our kitchen window in the middle of January...BRRR!; and especially the times on Tilton Pond when we ice fished, ate "bogwater soup" and hot dogs that were kept hot in a big thermos, and sipped yummy hot chocolate. We weren't rich, but we were happy. We had each other, and that was all that mattered in our world. I miss my big brother, the many ways he enriched my life, and our mutual love of 40's era music. However, I find peace in the knowledge that he dozed off in his chair and awoke in Heaven to be greeted by those he loved who rejoiced as he entered his heavenly home. Now, as you begin this difficult journey without your dad, remember that joy shared is multiplied and sorrow shared is divided. We love each and every one of you, and we grieve for you and with you. I will always remember when I was a little girl and talking to Uncle Buck at my grandmothers house. Things always came back to the fact that we share the same birthday. I remember him trying to convince me one year that I was his age and he was mine. I must have been about six. He was so silly. And even when I saw him this past summer it was " Do you remember Casey" and him saying " No no, Just her birthday." Silly guy. I know he will be missed and forever loved by us all.

When Chip and I were in our early teens we were waiting for Dad to pick us up from DeMolay. We had some time to kill so a bunch of us went up stairs to play pool. One kid had some cigars so we all decided to act grown up and light up the the most putrid cigars ever smoked. As we were standing around smoking, joking, and playing pool we looked up through the smoke to see my father standing in the doorway. You can't imagine our horror as we tried to figure out what to do with the cigar. As we scrambled to find an ashtray Buck simply said "Let's go" and never mentioned that day again. The lesson I learned from my Dad is to know when saying nothing can be the most effective response. I'll miss you

As a former classmate of Franklin, I was sad to hear of his demise. He was the one who kept us in touch with our high school undefined a former Maine resident I would never know the fate of my classmates if it had not been for Franklin. To the Barclay Family: I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I have fond memories of him, especially when he used to let me and my friends slide on the hill behind the house! He had a kind and generous heart. I always thought of him as a gentle giant (well, he seemed big to me when I was a kid! :o) May you find comfort in knowing that he is where he is supposed to be now.
